The cost of finishing floors continues to rise as the go to floor finishes such as tiling, wood, vinyl floors and laminate floors. Therefore people are always searching for an option that could save them some money but at the same time offer a luxurious finish.

Power floating is the process through which freshly poured concrete that has just set is smoothened using a motorised trowel machine. The trowelling process starts on the fresh concrete after the initial bleed process is finished. Using this method one can achieve a polished and smooth finish with a concrete look.

This eliminates the need to have a professional come back later with additional screed to re level the surface and more cement to attain a similar smooth finish hence saving on materials and labour.

Power floating by Paragon tools

Here are other advantages:
1. The finished surface is easy to maintain and clean. Rougher concrete finishes are usually hard to clean due to the grooves formed during placing. The smooth surface will also have a lower tendency to collect water.
2. They are more durable. Compared to floors that are left with the exposed rough finish concrete, there have a lower tendency to chip.
3. They are less susceptible to cracking compared to the raw exposed concrete. The initial shrinkage cracks that occur when one places concrete are sealed and covered.

Polished floors

Con
1. If you choose to do this during construction, one must ensure that the floor is kept relatively clean and free from construction debris in order to avoid damaging the surface. This will ensure that upon completion of the construction project, one only needs to buff clean and polish the concrete.

If you are looking for other flooring options other than ceramic tiles, consider the following. Hope this has been useful. Build wisely!
